A Note from Cris: I have a secret to tell, I am not a big fan of weddings. SHUT UP! I know! I was raised in a family that threw lovely weddings in my grandparents' backyard for pennies. We made the dresses, we made the food, we built the alter, and we tackled drunk guests (actually, that last one was my Grandpa's job). These weddings were personal, unique, and moving. I loved that everyone cared more about being a part of joining two people's lives and futures than in hosting that year's biggest and best bash.
Then I grew up and was invited to numerous "traditional" weddings. Lots of expensive flowers, $20,000 wedding dresses, lobster and prime rib, and horse drawn carriages. These weddings were overwhelming, impersonal, and forgettable. I hated that everyone seemed to care more about hosting a production and not about the joining of two people's lives and futures.
This frustration came to a head in 2008 when my good friends (and former roommates), Helen and Adam, announced their engagement. Suddenly, I was excited about weddings again. As they shared their idea, budget, and planning dilemmas, I was drawn in and asked to help out. It was really fun and (even better) at their wedding, the bride was stoked to show me all of my ideas and tips that she had implemented into The Big Day. So I got to thinking...
Why should a couple have to worry about throwing a huge party on their wedding day instead of experiencing the joy of becoming a new family? Why are weddings costing so much and why do couples feel pressured to spend what amounts to a new car on one party? Why do people spend so much money on trying to create a unique and memorable wedding and just end up with something forgettable?
Kiss My Tulle is devoted to helping couples achieve their dream of a chic and personable wedding on any budget. We promise to always tell the truth, show you how to realistically create your own wedding bouquet at home, and share ways to trim that budget (without resorting to frosting Styrofoam circles to fake extra layers of cake).
