Lighting

Lighting is incredibly important to any wedding. It can make or break the mood. It can also be the difference between your guests mingling in the glow of the lamplight…or stumbling around in the dark. The biggest problem with lighting is the cost. Renting or buying? Labor or DIY? Doesn't matter – they all add up.

One way to nagivate around this cost is to be practical about your lighting needs. If you're hosting a daytime wedding then your needs are simple – a bit of lighting in the enclosed spaces (bathrooms, etc.) and something to guide people to their cars if it gets dark. For an evening wedding, you needs will be greater. You'll be looking at lighting for the dance floor, tables, etc. Everything will need something illuminated. However, we're not talking search-and-rescue spotlighting here. A few simple but well planned lighting fixtures will give you wedding a soft glow that your guests will love.

Hanging lanterns and chandeliers can be found for any price range. I was at Target last night and found loads of gorgeous options for great prices (wait about 6-8 more weeks and they'll go on sale). Here's a few:

Any of these lighting options would work beautifully over the buffet table or individual tables.

The key to budgeting your wedding's lighting needs? Think investment. Only purchase lighting that you can use in your home after the wedding.
