We've all seen them – those horribly ugly bouquets in the supermarket floral section. They're always there – usually with the same three types of flowers and some greenery stuffed in there. And sure, we'd all LOVE to splash out and hit up a local florist for not-in-season peonies or orchids for the wedding bouquets but sometimes, the only option you have are those ubiquitous supermarket bouquets. Well, fear not budget brides and grooms, I'm here to show you how to make an ugly supermarket arrangement into a lovely wedding bouquet!
Step One: Buy the bouquet (I got a mini bouquet for $7 and some greenery for $4 at my local HEB). Try to buy the freshest ones (the ones that are not quite all the way open yet) and trim an inch or so off the bottom when you get home. Fill a jar or vase with warm/cool water and that flower food stuff (always seems to be a packet tucked in with the flowers). Let the flowers sit for a day or two to open fully. It's okay if you don't get a chance to do this though – don't stress.
Step Two: Trim all the stems to the desired length. I just used a pair of craft scissors – nothing fancy. Strip off any dying flowers, stray leaves, or thorns. Start with the biggest flowers (in this batch it was the daisies and a couple of lilies) and then play with adding a few of the medium flowers at different heights (in this batch is was poms). Use floral tape to bind the bundle together.
Step Three: Add the greenery and rest of the filler flowers (in this batch, the small spray roses and mini poms) to fill in the holes between the filler flowers. Use floral tape to bind the bundle together.
Step Four: Wrap fabric or ribbon around the bouquet's stem (covering the floral tape) and secure with pins or hot glue.
Step Five: Walk the shit out of that aisle!
