  1. Instead of one large, tiered cake, use one small cake (to cut) and serve cupcakes, pie, cake pops, or doughnuts.
  2. Dress up a plain tiered cake from the local supermarket or bakery with fresh flowers, ribbon, rhinestones, sprinkles, powered suger, or a killer cake topper for a chic look at a fraction of the traditional cost.
  3. Opt for buttercream over a fondant. It’s cheaper (less labor-intensive) and tastes WAY better.
  4. If you are serving a simple, non-teired cake then skip paying for delivery and set-up. Have a friend to do it instead. Most bakeries are cool with this.
  5. Bake a cake from a box and used canned frosting. Some people prefer the taste and they are simple to bake, layer, and frost.
