I always been a fan of dressing Melanie in T-shirts and pants instead of onesies. Call me a lazy bitch but it just seems easier to deal with pants over snaps AND pants. So when I found the cutest onesie the other day, I decided to bust out my semi-DIY skills and make it into a little tee. In case you wanna know, here's how to turn a onesie into a T-shirt:
Here's what you'll need:
Here's how it breaks down:
Step One: Gather your supplies and lay out the onesie on a flat surface.
Step Two: Using the old T-shirt as a pattern (lay it on top of the onesie and match up the shoulder seams), cut the bottom off the onesie. Don't forget to add about a 1/2 an inch for a seam allowance.
Step Three: Turn the tee inside out and lay it on your ironing surface.
Step Four: Turn the bottom up to make a 1/2 inch seam and press (don't stretch!) with the iron.
Step Five: Use a straight stitch on your sewing machine and sew one seam closer to the cut edge. If you have a Serger, skip this step and just run a seam around the cut edge. Be sure to gently pull the fabric as you sew so the knit can stretch properly.
Step Six: Next, sew another seam closer to the folded edge. This will create a nice double seam that matches those generally found on onesies.
Step Seven: Turn the T-shirt right side out and enjoy!
Melanie looks adorable in her semi-DIY T-shirt (especially with a tutu!), This project was so easy that I'm planning on making LOTS more of these.
What onesie would you turn into a T-shirt for your baby?
