How To Add WP Recipe To Your Post Using Gutenberg for WordPress

For the past few weeks, I've been sharing some quick and dirty tutorials on how to use the new Gutenberg interface for WordPress: how to create posts and pages , how to add lists and how-tos, and how to incorporate widgets and embeds. If you've been blogging using WordPress up until now, then you've been using the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor and Gutenberg will feel very different.

You can see more Gutenberg tutorials here.

WordPress is forcing a roll out of the Gutenberg Editor on November 19th – so, you might as well learn to use it. Today, I'm showing you how to use the popular WP Recipe plug-in in Gutenberg.

Here's how to add #WPRecipe to your posts in #Gutenberg for #WordPress. #blogging

How To Add WP Recipe To Your Post Using Gutenberg for WordPress

Be sure to take a moment and install the Gutenberg plug-in editor. Here's how to add WP Recipe to your posts in Gutenberg for WordPress.

HOW TO ADD WP RECIPE TO A POST

Log in to your WordPress blog.

Click on “Posts” in your WordPress dashboard.

Click on “Add New”. You should see the Gutenberg Editor.

Write your blog post’s title in the box labeled “Add Title”.

Write your post in the box labeled “Add Text or Type / To Add Content” in your Gutenberg Editor.

Now you can add a printable recipe using WP Recipe to your post. WP Recipe is one of the first plug-ins to embrace and modify their plug-in for this new interface.

To add WP Recipe to your blog post, click on the spot where you want it to appear. And then click on “+” which will appear to the left or in the center top of the new block being created.

Big Fat Tip: You can also create new blocks by clicking on the
“+” in the upper left hand corner. There's also some  “Undo” and “Redo” arrows there. Plus, an icon of an “i” with tons of information including: a word count, number of headings, number of paragraphs, number of blocks, and a breakdown of your title and headers.

Use the search bar to look for the WP Recipe Maker option or scroll down and click on the arrow next to the WP Recipe Maker option. This will open up icons representing all of the options available to you for this plug-in.

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu, you'll have several options for incorporating this plug-in into your post. Here's how to add: jump to recipe, jump to video, nutritional label, print recipe, or WPRM recipe.

Jump To Recipe

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu in your block options, click on the icon that looks like a rectangle (Jump to Recipe). When you add this, it will create a button to jump to the WP Recipe in your post.

Big Fat Tip: This is automatically linked – no need for you to do anything else (well, except add the WP Recipe).

Jump To Video

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu in your block options, click on the icon that looks like a rectangle (Jump to Video). When you add this, it will create a button to jump to the WP Recipe video in your post.

Big Fat Tip: This is automatically linked – no need for you to do anything else (well, except add the WP Recipe).

Nutritional Label

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu in your block options, click on the icon that looks like a small grid with a clock in it (Nutritional Label). When you add this, it will create a text block with the nutritional label from the WP Recipe in your post.

Big Fat Tip: This is automatically generated using the information in your WP Recipe – no need for you to do anything else.

Print Recipe

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu in your block options, click on the icon that looks like a rectangle (Print Recipe). When you add this, it will create a printable link for the WP Recipe in your post.

Big Fat Tip: This is automatically linked – no need for you to do anything else (well, except add the WP Recipe).

WPRM Recipe

Under the WP Recipe Maker menu in your block options, click on the icon that looks like a printed recipe page (WPRM Recipe). When you add this, it will create a block where you can “create a recipe” (the red button) or “insert existing recipe” (the gray button).

Create New Recipe

To create a new recipe, click on the red “Create a Recipe” button. From here, the plug-in looks just like the classic version. You can choose from one or all of the tabs: Import from Text, Recipe Details, Ingredients & Instructions, or Recipe Notes.

Fill in the necessary details then click “Save” (to save and continue working) or “Insert & Close” (to save, insert into the post, and close the plug-in).

If you select “Insert & Close”, your printable recipe will appear within the post and it will automatically link to any jumps, print recipe links, or nutritional labels that you've already created.

To insert an existing recipe, click on the gray “Insert existing Recipe” button. From here, use the dropdown menu to find the existing recipe (you can type words or phrases in to find it).

Click “Insert & Close”. Your printable recipe will appear within the post and it will automatically link to any jumps, print recipe links, or nutritional labels that you've already created.

Click “Publish/Update” on the right side.
