DIY: Sugared Flowers Tutorial

Sugared flowers are a classic wedding cake look and recently, have been become a chic way to decorate simple wedding cupcakes. These sugary buds are a nice addition to a wedding menu and are totally a doable DIY project (especially since they can be done up to three months beforehand!). Here's how:

– 1/2 cup superfine sugar (look for it in your supermarket abking aisle).

– 1 lightly beaten egg white.

– Small paintbrush or cake brush.

– Edible flowers that have been grown without pesticides or herbicides (here's a detailed list of edible flowers).


Step 1: Wash flowers, air dry, and cut buds from stems.

Step 2: Use a small paintbrush (or cake brush) to paint each blossom with egg white.

Step 3: Sprinkle bud with sugar and tap to remove excess.

Step 4: Set aside to dry (on a piece of paper towel).

Step 5: Repeat until every flower has been done.

Step 6: All the blossoms to dry overnight. Use immediately or store in an airtight container (at room temperature) for up to 3 months.
