LGBTQIA+ Wedding Songs

I've been seeing loads of First Dance song recommendations floating around the Internet lately and they are all wonderful.

However, they are all aimed at heterosexual couples.

That's nice but our ever evolving country is seeing a greater need for recommendations for gay and lesbian couples getting married.

Here's a round up of excellent LGBTQIA+ wedding songs – because not all love songs are appropriate for all love stories.

LGBTQIA+ Wedding Songs

So, I did my own. Each of these songs is perfect for LGBTQIA+ couples because the lyrics do not directly refer to a boy/girl love story or use non-gendered pronouns.

There's a greater need for recommendations for LGBTQIA+ wedding songs - because not all love songs are appropriate for all love stories.

For Couples Who Identify As Lesbian:

  • Wedding Song – Tracy Chapman
  • Power of Two – Indigo Girls
  • All of Me – John Legend
  • Ribbon in the Sky – Stevie Wonder
  • I Kissed a Girl – Katy Perry
  • Something to Talk About – Bonnie Raitt
  • On the Street Where You Live – Linda Eder
  • I’m In Love With A Girl – Big Star
  • She Keeps Me Warm – Mary Lambert
  • Let Me Tell You About Her – Elvis Costello
  • I Saw Her Standing There – The Beatles
  • A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
  • My Girl – The Temptations
  • Perfect – Ed Sheeran
  • What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction

For Couples Who Identify As Gay:

  • In My Life – The Beatles
  • All of My Life – Irving Berlin
  • The Luckiest – Ben Folds
  • I'm Yours – Jason Mraz
  • My Boyfriends Back – The Angels
  • Fucking Perfect – P!nk
  • In Your Eyes – Peter Gabriel
  • Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart – Judy Garland
  • I’ll Cover You – Rent
  • If I Should Fall Behind – Bruce Springsteen
  • Let's Hear it for the Boy – Deniece Williams
  • Perfect Day – Lou Reed
  • Walking On Sunshine – Katrina And The Waves
  • No Finer Man – Linda Eder

For Anyone:

  • Time After Time – Cyndi Lauper
  • We're All Different, Yet the Same – Jolin Tsai
  • Stand By Me – Ben E. King
  • A Simple Love – Melissa Etheridge
  • You + Me – P!nk
  • Can't Help Falling in Love – Elvis
  • Same Love – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (featuring Mary Lambert)
  • Everything I Do (I Do It For You) – Linda Eder (a MUCH better version than Bryan Adams)
  • All Mine – Portishead
  • No Ordinary Love – Sade
  • Instant Karma – John Lennon
  • Your Song – Elton John
  • At Last – Etta James
  • Many Rivers to Cross – Jimmy Cliff
  • Stay With You – John Legend
  • It Had to Be You – Harry Connick, Jr.
  • Everything I Have is Yours – Billie Holiday
  • To Make You Feel My Love – Bob Dylan OR Billy Joel OR Garth Brooks OR Adele (each version is great)
  • You Are the Best Thing – Ray LaMontagne
  • Bless The Broken Road – Rascal Flatts

Can anyone think of any additions to the list? What song did you (or a friend or family member) use for a first dance song?

Why was that song so important? Please share!
