Alternative Wedding Vows or Readings: Geek Edition

Let me tell you, one of the hardest things about planning my own wedding was trying to write the wedding ceremony. I was not a fan of the traditional vows (I obey noone but myself thankyouverymuch) and really wanted to find something that reflected our concept of what we wanted our relationship to be. If you're in the same boat but looking for alternative vows with a geekier lean – here ya go!

For Harry Potter Fans: Do the Unbreakable Vow

Will you, [insert your name], watch over XXX, as she/he attempts to fulfill the Dark Lord's wishes?

I will.

And will you, to the best of your ability, protect her/him from harm?

I will.

And, if XXX should fail, will you yourself carry out the deed the Dark Lord has ordered XXX to perform?

I will.

For "Doctor Who" Fans: Quote from the 9th Season

Do you wanna come with me? 'Cause if you do, then I should warn you – you're gonna see all sorts of things. Ghosts from the past. Aliens from the future. The day the Earth died in a ball of flame. It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: The trip of a lifetime!

For "Star Wars" Fans: Hans and Leia

I love you.

I know.

For "FireFly" Fans: Mal's Statement about Love

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, he'll/she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps him/her in the air when he/she oughta fall down…..tells ya he's/she's hurtin 'fore he/she keens…..makes him/her a home.

For Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Fans: A Reading from So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish

They looked at each other for a moment.

The moment became a longer moment, and suddenly it was a very long moment, so long one could hardly tell where all the time was coming from.

For Arthur, who could usually contrive to feel self-conscious if left alone for long enough with a Swiss Cheese plant, the moment was one of sustained revelation. He felt on the sudden like a cramped and zoo-born animal who awakes one morning to find the door to his cage hanging quietly open and the savannah stretching grey and pink to the distant rising sun, while all around new sounds are waking.

He wondered what the new sounds were as he gazed at her openly wondering face and her eyes that smiled with a shared surprise.

He hadn't realized that life speaks with a voice to you, a voice that brings you answers to the questions you continually ask of it, had never consciously detected it or recognized its tones till it now said something it had never said to him before, which was "Yes."
