Alternative Wedding Vows or Readings: Jane Austen Edition

Let me tell you, one of the hardest things about planning my own wedding was trying to write the wedding ceremony. I was not a fan of the traditional vows (I obey no one but myself thankyouverymuch) and really wanted to find something that reflected our concept of what we wanted our relationship to be. If you're in the same boat but looking for alternative vows with a more literary lean lean – here's some wedding vows inspired by Jane Austen!

Arrows

Pride And Prejudice

In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.

Arrows

Love and Friendship

The Very first moment I beheld him, my heart was irrevocably gone.

Arrows

 Persuasion

I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope… I offer myself to you… I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant… For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men.

Arrows

Emma

If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it.

Arrows

How many of you are looking to incorporate some alternative vow wordings or readings in to your wedding ceremony?
