Have a Heluva Good! Time this Halloween

Only a few more weeks until Halloween, y'all! What are your plans? We'll be doing our annual (going on it's fifth year!) Halloween Hay Ride in our neighborhood. We live in a rural subdivision with no safe sidewalks and houses that are spread apart so every year, I organize a hay ride so the kids on our street can safely trick-or-treat. We load everyone up on trailers filled with quilt-covered hay bales and trucks pull them from driveway to driveway. It's really fun for the kids to get to see their neighbors and where they live plus the little ones always feel like they're doing something “dangerous” since it's an open hay ride. It's totally safe, the trailers have high sides, trucks go three miles an hour, and every kid has an adult with them but still – reckless! Wink, wink. Anyway, a couple of years ago, we started doing a pre-hay ride hot dog roast at another neighbor's house so that everyone could get together and visit before the candy frenzy ensues. I'm always looking for fun outside-the-box ideas in lieu of the more traditional chips and dips we all know. So, I was delighted when I came up with a fun way for us to have a Heluva Good! time this Halloween!

If you like to host gatherings and entertain then you're probably familiar with Heluva Good! Dip. Sure, they're perfect for chips but did you know that they pair perfectly with other options, too? Like, did you see my savory “candied” apples on Instagram? I wrapped apple slices in bacon (half a piece of bacon per apple slice) and sprinkled them with dark brown sugar. Then I baked them on a rack placed in a baking sheet for 18 minutes at 350 degrees. YUUUUMMMMM. They were so tasty!

For our Halloween get together, I'm taking these mini kolaches (or pigs-in-a-blanket for all of you not living in Texas). Cut up a package of crescent roll dough into small triangles, wrap each mini triangle around a mini beef link, and bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Super easy, super simple, and super dippable! Do either of these treats sound tasty to you? Then be sure to pick up some Heluva Good! Dip at a store near you!
