Wedding Wednesday: I’m Giving Away my Wedding Dress for FREE

I got married and loved our sweet outdoor wedding last May.

The best part of all was getting to marry The Boy while wearing the most amazing dress – with a more incredible story behind it.

See, I am the proud recipient of THE VERY FIRST Wedding Dress Project Dress.

Wedding Wednesday: I'm Giving Away my Wedding Dress for FREE

Prior to my wedding I hadn’t been dreaming about my wedding gown for years.

In fact, after I got engaged, I simply could not muster the enthusiasm for wedding dress shopping that it seemed like every other bride had.

But then I was browsing around and stumbled upon a strange little ad. It went like this:

“For the past six months, I’ve been racking my brain, trying to figure out what to do with my wedding dress… my poor little dress has just been sitting in my closet all by her lonesome. It really made me sad to think that in her short life, she only had one day in the sun, only one day of glory. She was such a beautiful dress and did such a good job at making me feel absolutely stunning on my day; she really deserved at least one more spin on the dance floor. So, I’ve decided that the best way to honor our day and the dress is to donate her to another bride on a budget, ensuring she dances again.”

And this was the accompanying picture:

San Antonio lifestyle blogger, Cris Stone, is sharing the amazing story behind my FREE wedding dress and then giving it away (yes, FOR FREE) to one of you! Find out more!

And I fell in love. It was so beautiful and classic and modest (yet sexy).

I held my breath and wrote to the lovely lady offering the dress.

Then I hoped. And within days I got an answer, Elizabeth Fairchild picked me to share its story and we’ve been friends ever since.

My wedding was everything I’d hoped for and my dress made me feel beautiful.

There was NO WAY that I would have been able to afford anything as lovely as that dress on my $5,000 budget.

Since I got my Wedding Dress Project Dress, I’ve gotten married twice, lost my father to cancer (but shared my wedding dress with him first), and now – I’m ready to pass that love along to one of you.

That’s right, Liz gave me the dress and now I’m passing it along to the next bride.

Here’s the details:

  • The dress’s measurements are: Bust – 36”, Waist – 30”, Hips – 38”, Length – 57”
  • The dress has a train that can be bustled
  • It also includes a matching silk sash
  • Is covered in intricate glass beading and sequins
  • This does not include the veil or the jewelry
  • I've cleaned the dress myself but there is some interior staining (that doesn't show)
  • Recipient pays shipping (unless we can arrange a hand-off!)
  • Recipient agrees to recycle the love with another bride and give the dress away after their wedding.

Sharing is caring!

I really love the idea of a dress being “gifted” among brides instead of “trashing the dress”, it provides even more of a sentimental touch to think how many leading ladies wore this dress on the happiest day of their life, it also becomes a great story to share! I confess, I’m just a little in love with the idea. xo

Thanks for sharing our story, the dress, and helping me SOOO much along this journey Cris. I’m simultaneously a little sad and overjoyed to see this dress going to a new home (the same way I felt when giving it to you the first time.) I know that our journey together is far from over and can’t wait to hear about the friend you’ll make in the process of donating our dress.

Thank you so, so much for everything.

    Liz

Liz, Thank you! None of this ever would have happened without you and your generosity and a plan. I confess, I teared up a little when I posted my dress to the forum. I’m so attached to the story and journey behind it and it became a big symbol of the amazingness of the wedding world.
