12 Months of Fitness: Where We Are Now

Are you ready to see where the 12 Months of Fitness (#12MoF) challenge took you this year? Check out the introduction to 12 Months of Fitness here and then take a moment to reassess how you did. Don't stress out if you're having a tough time doing all the challenges – this process was about finding what works for you.

Reflect back on this past year and ask yourself – did I make a change in my lifestyle? Your goal for this whole challenge was to reassess where you could make small changes to your every day routines and then work to improve on those changes. It's okay if you've fallen off the rails or if you're only doing one thing. Even one small step can improve your life. To see how your baby steps helped you live a healthier life, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you clothes fit better?
  • Did you lose weight?
  • Can you lift more?
  • Is your stamina improved?
  • Did you discover new foods?

And to help you understand how BIG small changes can be, here's how it worked out for our yearlong #12MoF testers (you can meet them over on our Facebook page!):

"2013 was a big year for me: I bought a house, I started a new business, and with the help of #12MoF, I focused on my health more than ever before. I don't weigh myself (it makes me get too tied up in the numbers), so I don't know if I really lost weight or how much, but everyone THINKS I did … it's because they see me as more toned, energetic, and glowing. I attribute these positive changes to an increased yoga practice, regular high-impact exercise, a plant-based diet, and more "me" time. 2013 has really shown me that physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are inextricable … when you take care of your body, your heart and soul benefit, too. Thank you Cris for spearheading this campaign! Here's to a lifetime for fitness!" {Elizabeth}

"It's crazy to think a whole year has gone by already! I learned to challenge myself both at the gym and when it came to opening up the refrigerator. Mostly, though, I learned how to consciously make simple lifestyle decisions that will last a lifetime. The changes I started making in January made living healthier even easier–especially when I learned I was pregnant in July. My husband and I are expecting our first baby–a girl!–in early April, and both baby and I are doing great thanks to the little steps I've taken during the past year."" {Kaleena}

"I loved all of these monthly challenges because I'm completely incapable of being accountable only to myself. I have to do it for someone else. I think the one that had the biggest impact was eating more whole wheat. Thanks to this challenge I've embraced whole wheat breads and pasta. I no longer think whole wheat pasta is the most horrible thing on Earth and buy it regularly. I also try to include at least two vegetables with our meals and I'm very conscious of how much water I drink. I lost about 10 pounds since January. I'm happy that I've lost weight, but also a little disappointed in myself. I'm sure it would have been more if I took exercising and eating right more seriously. On the bright side, I'm  heading into the New Year weighing less than I did a year ago. That's something to celebrate. " {Ariella}
