First, thank you so much for your sweet congrats on our life-changing news. It was much appreciated! This is a bit of an overwhelming experience so every nice comment is remembered on those crap days (and there are many of those). Now, on to answering your baby questions, concerns, and comments!
How far along are you?
As of today, I am 14 weeks (just in the second trimester).
How’d you tell The Boy? Was he excited?
I texted him a photo of the positive pregnancy test (this isn’t as weird as it sounds; we’ve done something similar for other big life-changing moments). He was so excited that he misspelled his response terribly.
You’re boobs are going to be HUGE.
Well, since they already were – yes. And, in the words of Mad Men’s Joan “Yes, they are bigger”. Much, MUCH bigger.
How’d you know you were pregnant?
I was super emotional and late. It just clicked one day that those factors might mean something. You can read about it more here.
How are you feeling?
Better though the first trimester was absolutely miserable. Horrible. Awful. Terrible. But now I’m just dealing with a bit of fatigue, a little nausea in the morning, and crazy hormones.
Are you showing?
Not really. I’m so fat, it looks like I’m showing but it’s really just a large fat roll. Pathetic but true.
How is Hank handling all this? What about Caira?
Hank has no clue what’s going on. We’ve really clamped down on his jumping on people habit. A couple of weeks ago he jumped up on me and not only did it really, really hurt but it nearly knocked me over. Not good. In a few months, The Boy will start doing some training to prepare him for a baby in the house (using many suggestions from this fabulous book).
As for Caira, she knows something is going on but it’s sure what. She can’t sleep on my belly anymore (it hurts) so she’s pretty pissed off about that. I’m guessing though that she’s NOT going to be happy when a baby appears in the house.
Are you going to find out the gender of the baby?
I’d like to. The Boy is still deciding. We’ll let y’all know what we decide in a couple of weeks.
Is this why you’re so fat again?
Yep, my weight gain has been less “minor medical issues” and more (as The Ranty Bride called it) “uterine parasite”. I’m not happy about it at all (I’m WAY over the weight I should be right now) but I can’t turn back time. I’ve started working out again and I want to eat healthier food again so hopefully, I can get a grip on this. I’ll do a post on this later this month.
Will you nurse or breastfeed? Disposable or cloth? Doctor or midwife? Sleep train or co-sleep?
I’m hoping to deliver with a midwife at a birthing center and breastfeed. We haven’t figured anything else out yet. No rush.
We have an old (fill-in-the-blank), do you want it?
We’re doing a lot of hand-me-downs and secondhands for this baby. However, it doesn’t mean that I’m not being picky about what we receive. If you offer something and we turn you down, please don’t be hurt or insulted. We don’t have much room and I’m super picky about what we’re using so please don’t be offended if we go in another direction.
***For safety reasons, we will not be using secondhand cribs or car seats.***
How are you going to get a job if you’re pregnant? No one will want to hire you.
I know. I still don’t look pregnant, only really fat so I’m hoping to get something soon. The whole thing sucks.
How did you tell your family?
On Christmas Eve, I wrapped up a couple of onsies and let them open them (with his parents at their house and over the phone with my mom). I found out later this was how my mom told her family when she was pregnant with my sister.
Do you have to pee all the time?
Yes. All. The. Time. And the first challenge of 12 Months of Fitness is making it worse (but I’m not stopping – babies need loads of water).
That's all for now, y'all!
