A few Christmases ago, my little sister gifted me a wonderfully chunky knit scarf with super cute pom poms on the end. I wore the scarf endlessly… until I had my daughter. Then, the adorable pom poms started being used as teething toys and a little person frequently tried to strangle me with my own accessory. So, this winter, I decided to make a small change that would allow me to continue wearing my favorite scarf – without fearing for my welfare. So, here's how to turn a regular scarf into an infinity scarf (in only a few steps!):
Here's what you'll need:
Here's how it breaks down:
Step One: Gather your supplies and lay out the scarf on a flat surface.
Step Two: Fold the scarf in half and pin the ends together.
Step Three: Thread your sewing machine and stitch a small to medium zigzag seam along the end (try and get the zigzag seam to “wrap” around the ends of the scarf – it will create a nice turned seam) Remember to backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
Step Four: Now, use scissors to trim off any pom poms or fringe.
Step Five: Turn the scarf right side out and enjoy!
This project was pretty quick and easy (it took me about 15 minutes from start to finish) and I love wearing when it gets chilly.
Do you have an old scarf you're dying to turn into an infinity scarf?
