This weekend, my little family had the opportunity to attend the LEGO® Americana Roadshow, a traveling display of large scale LEGO® models replicating some of the nation's most iconic and well-known landmarks.
We had such a good time since this one-of-a-kind exhibit is highly visual, educational, and free! Melanie has been playing with LEGOs® since she was a year old and it was so amazing to see her get incredibly excited looking at the workmanship and inventiveness of the LEGO® exhibits.
Truly, it is family-friendly fun for all ages at the LEGO® Americana Roadshow at the North Star Mall!
Running from August 20 to September 5, the exhibits are located throughout the North Star Mall (the one with the big cowboy boots!) and feature signs that share facts about the real landmark and trivia about the LEGO® builds.
We began at the US Capitol Building replica and it was HUGE! The details were incredible. I loved learning how the LEGO® builders needed an entire trailer just to carry this one piece from town-to-town.
From there, we used our maps (which show the locations of each exhibit and include a fun trivia quiz on the back [fill it out and turn it in at the LEGO® store to receive a free LEGO® Americana Roadshow poster!]) to visit each display.
I was completely in awe of each one but my personal favorite was the Liberty Bell exhibit! It's the only one not roped off so that you can stand right next to it for a photo or sneak a peek underneath to see the bell's clapper.
I really loved the incredible detail and engineering of the exhibits. The curves of the Statue of Liberty, the waving flags at the base of the Washington Memorial, the crack on the Liberty Bell – I was just floored by cool it all was.
It was also fun to see the imaginative details and fun, quirky bits that the LEGO® builders created for some of the non-landmark displays. Like a scene from “The LEGO® Movie” or the fun Mount Rushmore mishmash featuring a mishmash of popular movie characters. So, so fun!
The LEGO® tour culminates in a cool all-ages play area in the mall's food court. The play area features multiple bins of LEGOs® and instructions on how to make some fun creations. Melanie loved making a LEGO® car and racing it down one of the two ramps also in the play area.
It's also conveniently located next to one of the North Star Mall's excellent restroom areas, equipped with multiple family bathrooms, a changing room, and nursing area (perfect for pumping, too!).
And to make this roadshow even cooler, LEGO® is hosting a contest to celebrate! The prize for the sweepstakes is a $250 LEGO® gift card while the digital contest offers three different entry methods (there will be one winner selected from across all the entry methods):
- Instagram: To enter, take a photo of the exhibit at the mall and include the hashtag #LEGOAmericana.
- Online RSVP/entry form: RSVP for the LEGO® Roadshow at North Star Mall for a chance to win a $250 LEGO® Gift Card!
- By mail: See official rules for details.
Be sure to swing by during a Make-and-Take weekend, during which a limited number of mini monuments are given away to attendees. The make-and-take for North Star Mall Mall is August 27 to August 28 from noon to 4PM and attendees will receive a mini Liberty Bell LEGO® make-n-take.
The LEGO® Americana Roadshow at the North Star Mall is the perfect activity for a fun family activity. I loved the incredible details of the LEGO® exhibits while my husband enjoyed learning how the LEGO® builders constructed each one.
Melanie really loved the fun extra LEGO® builds tucked in among the LEGO® monuments, there was a Duplo® one featuring lots of Disney Junior characters that she was particularly enamored with.
Will you be hitting up the LEGO® Americana Roadshow at the North Star Mall with your family?
