This year’s Top 10 Wedding Trends can be summed up in one word: unique! More and more couples are breaking tradition and trying something new for their wedding… something that will be remembered long after the final dance. Looking to put a distinct stamp on your own nuptials? Try one of these alternative approaches that have emerged in 2014.
– Choose Comfort: Instead of conforming to the “beauty is pain” philosophy, this year’s brides are ditching the heels and going cute and comfy with ballet flats, Toms, or even Chucks! There are many girly styles to choose from, so you can dance the night away while still feeling like a princess. Just don’t lose a shoe at midnight!
– Break Away from Basic Black: This year, the 50 Shades of Gray trend continues, with boys shying away from black and choosing softer hues for their tuxes. A tailored gray suit can adapt to a casual or cocktail setting, and the color works well with any skin tone.
– Mix Maids & Men: It’s 2014, and modern couples are switching things up. If one of your besties is a guy, why not have a “bridesman” standing by your side on the most important day of your life? For all of you guys out there with a sister-from-another-mister, consider adding a “groomsmaid” to your attendant list!
– Go Green: This year’s bridal bouquets have been full of lush greenery and blends of soft colors like blush, ivory, and peach. Make your bouquet even more original, like this one, by using cascading greenery instead of uniform stems. Mixing succulents among your flowers is another way to uniquely tie in the popular color.
– Switch Up the Seating: This year, many couples are nixing the estate table and choosing a sweetheart table instead. It’s a nice way to get the bride and groom together for a quiet moment before the socializing craziness begins! Since the newlyweds rarely sit down again after dining, it also eliminates the issue of having a large empty table up front for the rest of your reception.
– Play With Your Food: Tired of the same old buffet line? Consider adding interactive food displays such as a mac & cheese station or DIY tater tot bar. Or, just skip the caterer altogether and bring in a couple of food trucks! Your guests will enjoy the experience of customizing their own dish to fit their tastes. If you’re not quite ready to change up the standard menu, try just adding a popcorn bar with flavor shakers for a late-night snack.
– Aim to Please: More and more couples are focusing on their guests’ experience during the entire wedding. New trends such as pre-ceremony refreshments keep your friends and family happy while they wait for your walk down the aisle.
– Capture the Moments: Photo booths are all the rage – not only do they give your guests some great mementos to bring home, but they also provide a fun activity during your reception. Make your pictures stand out by adding a custom backdrop that you can repurpose for home décor after your wedding! Don’t forget to create a personal hashtag so you can quickly access any pics that guests upload to Instagram, Facebook, etc. Better yet, ask your guests to download the WedPics app and all of the amateur photographers can share their shots in one location.
– Savor the Favors: Let’s face it, we all have a drawer-full of bottle openers and koozies, but no one can ever have enough pint glasses! Not only will you save money on glassware for your reception, but your guests will remember your wedding every time they pour a cold one at home.
– Exit in Style: Though sparkler exits have been around for a while, their popularity continues to grow. Sparklers look beautiful in the grand exit pictures, but you can also get some fun shots beforehand by playing with the exposure.
Whether or not you use one of these popular trends for your own nuptials, your wedding is sure to be uniquely you. Who knows, maybe you’ll start a top trend for 2015!
