Melanie is now at that really cool age where she is aware of upcoming holidays and wants to help make them special. So when I told her that Father's Day was coming up and we could plan a special breakfast to cook for Daddy, she immediately jumped up and down, clapping her hands, and yelling “Bacon and wapples! Bacon and wapples!” It's like she's mind-melding with her father or something because that's exactly what he wants for his special day. Since both things are pretty easy to make, I decided to up my game and use my favorite thick sliced bacon to make fun hearts to serve with the waffles. Cute, right? Melanie was so excited about making the bacon shapes and helping me mix the waffles. On a more personal note, I hope that all my readers have a Happy Father's Day. It was always one my favorite days to hang out with my Dad while he was still alive and was always filled with food, stories, and laughter. My Dad loved just being surrounded by his family and eating his favorite foods. In his memory, my husband and I strive to share those same happy times with our kids so that they too, will understand that Father's Day isn't about gifts – it's about family… and BACON. Because, BACON. Have a great day, y'all!
