After messing around in Massachusetts, The Boy and I decided to spend the next day in the car (this decision was helped along by an unseasonal “monsoon” all along the East Coast during our honeymoon road trip). We took turns driving up to Maine along the coastal highway. We enjoyed all the little towns and windy roads. But mostly, I enjoyed the amazing houses. Wanna see some?
Then, I ate more lobster. Maine lobster (FYI, not as good as the twin boil I devoured in Gloucester!). And I made fun of the teeny, tiny moose. Hey, I’m from Alaska y’all – Maine moose are wee little things.
We made it just past Portland, Maine (the birthplace of my mom) before we decided to turn around and start heading back to Texas. We figured that if we headed back now, it would allow us enough time to hit the sights we’d missed on the way up. This time, instead of following the coast, we took the inner state small highways… many of which were closed due to flooding.
You know what’s fun? Trying to drive around New England roads with poorly marked detours and no clue where you’re going. But, eventually, we made it to our destination (just outside Boston) in preparation for our future Fenway Park visit.
Have any of you road tripped to New England?
