There is no denying that everyone loves candy, well at least 99.99% of people do. At your wedding, odds are that everyone there will also love candy…and we do mean everyone! So why not provide some tasty and delicious candy treats for those who came from near and far? What a great way to make your special day even more memorable! So if you love your guests enough to give them a candy buffet, here are a few factors to consider:
Looks vs. Taste
It’s only reasonable to want to match your wedding and candy buffet colors. However, please don’t have tunnel vision and forget about taste! We all love candy for one reason above all others and that would be its tastiness. Including a candy that no one has ever heard of or tasted just because it is exactly the right shade of purple may help with color coordination, but you run the risk of having to cart away or (heaven forbid) throw away a lot of uneaten purple candy.
Do your best to provide candy that is popular and has broad taste appeal. For example, a candy buffet full of M&M’s will most likely win in a popularity contest versus a candy buffet full of Jordan Almonds, as pretty as they may be. Always remember: a candy buffet is to be admired, but above all eaten.
Candy on a Budget
Most of us aren’t fortunate enough to live next to a gigantic candy store, and big box stores like Target or Walmart only offer limited candy options. Your best option for a large variety of single color bulk wedding candy is online. To save money, buy in bulk. Many retailers offer free or flat rate shipping for large orders.
Also, if you are having a summer wedding and want to include chocolate candy in your buffet, buy it far in advance (like February or March) to save money on shipping. Shipping chocolate during the summer months requires expensive expedited shipping and special packaging to prevent chocolate candy from melting. Also, you should be able to call the retailer in advance to check on your desired candy’s shelf life.
Candy Display
Apothecary jars are so in vogue when it comes to candy displays, the glass jars are truly beautiful. But don’t sacrifice beauty over function. Consider the candy you’ll have in your candy buffet and ask yourself how easy would it be for your guests to scoop the candy out of various jars? Maybe an apothecary jar would be better for wrapped candy like taffy where people can simply grab it with their hands.
This is not to steer anyone away from using apothecary jars, they are lovely choices and really add flare to any candy buffet. Just balance them with a little function, it won’t take away from your buffet’s aesthetics. Broad rim jars, mason jars, cube jars, etc. can all be equally beautiful and a bit more functional.
