Alternative Wedding Vows or Readings: Stephen King Edition

Let me tell you, one of the hardest things about planning my own wedding was trying to write the wedding ceremony. I was not a fan of the traditional vows (I obey no one but myself thankyouverymuch) and really wanted to find something that reflected our concept of what we wanted our relationship to be. If you’re in the same boat but looking for alternative vows with a more creepy/scary lean – well, here ya go! Some wedding vows – Stephen King style!

Kids Aren’t Invited to a Wedding? It’s Not Personal

There are several hot button issues associated with any wedding and today, we’re tackling The No Kids Issue. Specifically, why it’s NOT ABOUT YOU if you’re invited to a wedding but your kids are not. Here’s the deal, I adore kids and we had tons of them at our wedding. But it was easy and totally possible for us to do so. The wedding was at our house, outside, and featured a simple buffet catered by us. Lots of room for the kids to play and run around safely and no dealing with a kid’s menu. But other people’s weddings aren’t like this and many times, their hands are tied on the whole kids at the wedding issue. Here’s some real reasons why, if your kids aren’t invited to a wedding, it’s not personal:

Fabulous Pairings for Bridesmaid Dresses and Shoes

Recently someone asked me for advice on finding the “right” type of shoe for her bridesmaids to wear with a specific style of dress. My answer is that there ARE NO RULES and she should let them wear whatever makes them happy and let’s them dance all night. However, I do acknowledge that there are a few styles of footwear and dresses that seem to pair up well with each other. So, here are a few of my suggestions for fabulous pairings for bridesmaid dresses and shoes.

A Wedding Day Emergency Kit Checklist (for the Kiddos)

It’s important to be prepared and your wedding day is no different. I think it’s a good idea for every wedding to plan to have a Wedding Day Emergency Kit on hand… just in case (If you hire a wedding planner – they should bring one with them.). This kit is totally something you can compile yourself with items from around your house. Every wedding is different, so you’ll want to add or subtract items but this is a good rundown of what you’d want to have around in case of a wedding day emergency. Today’s emergency kit is geared to the littlest ones in your wedding party. You can also check out my emergency kits for the ladies and the gents.

For the Wedding Guests: How to Fill Out a RSVP

RSVPs. They’re the dirty word of weddings. Everyone hates them – the guests, the couple, the planner. No one EVER gets all the RSVPs back (in fact, if you’re lucky, you’ll get 30% back – maybe) and it’s frustrating. But more frustrating is when you DO get them back and people haven’t filled them in properly. So, as a public service announcement for the wedding guests, here’s how to fill out an RSVP:

Alternative Wedding Vows or Readings: Robin Williams Edition

Let me tell you, one of the hardest things about planning my own wedding was trying to write the wedding ceremony. I was not a fan of the traditional vows (I obey no one but myself thankyouverymuch) and really wanted to find something that reflected our concept of what we wanted our relationship to be. If you’re in the same boat and looking for alternative vows here’s a few from the amazing and truly missed Robin Williams. As a child of the 80’s, I loved him and felt like I knew him. How sweet a memorial would it be to use a few of his best movie lines and quotes about love in your wedding ceremony?
